The Drum Major Project

50 Years Ago, Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was ASSASSINATED

We will remember and commemorate his legacy with a reenactment of the funeral procession, elements of which will be reinterpreted to speak to issues of today. Rachel Parish and Firehouse Productions, in collaboration with the King Center are producing this event in Atlanta on April 9th, 2018.

There will be a series of visual art workshop in the lead up to the main event lead by Angela Davis Johnson, Zipporah Camille Thompson and myself, with support from the Atlanta Mayoral Office of Cultural Affairs.

For my part, I will help design a workshop to create signs that reference contemporary issues to accompany a series of "tableau vivant," that is vignettes of actors specifically in civil rights era costume, that will be placed along the route of the procession.
